Empowerment of detainees and conflict affected persons

This programme area complements the overall work undertaken by IHR. The activities focus on a holistic approach in addressing human problems

The focus, which was initially weighted towards psycho social work, has now shifted to providing basic needs for detainees and empowerment programs, such as revolving loans, vocational training and life skills workshops. This programme area also has an advocacy component built into its activities and makes an effort to address issues relating to women and children in detention centers.

  • Providing basic needs : nutritional /health and sanitation/recreational needs of detainees and conflict affected persons
  • Facilitating vocational training for youth and inmates of women and children detention centers.
  • Conducting empowerment programs
  • Providing financial assistance through revolving loans to ex-detainees and victims of conflict.
  • Advocating for institutional practices to be changed to secure the rights of detainees and conflict affected persons.
